We recently had the pleasure of hosting a beekeeper, Marián Krupeľák, who gave a fascinating lecture on the crucial role bees play in our environment and our survival as a species. Beyond being a simple talk about beekeeping, the session served as a powerful reminder of the delicate balance nature requires — and the essential role each of us has in preserving it. 

As part of our sustainability efforts, we have taken meaningful steps to support bees. For almost a year now, we have been renting two beehives from the same beekeeper who inspired us with his passion and expertise. While he ensures the care and health of the hives, we look forward to receiving the honey they produce soon. During his visit, he showcased a range of products made from honey. These included vax candles, pure propolis, propolis dissolved in alcohol, mead, pure pollen, and various types of honey, such as forest honey. He also highlighted the antibacterial benefits of bee products, emphasizing their natural healing properties and value beyond their versatility. It was a great way to highlight the incredible versatility of the work bees do. This collaboration, for us, is more than a sustainability effort, it's a reflection of our company’s values and commitment to environmental responsibility.

Why bees matter

Bees are often underestimated in their importance, yet their role in sustaining life on Earth is monumental. These industrious pollinators are responsible for nearly 75% of global food crop pollination, including fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and even coffee. Without bees, food production would collapse, leading to catastrophic consequences for ecosystems and humanity. Simply put, if bees disappear, so will we(!).

Sadly, bees are under threat. Urbanization, habitat destruction, excessive pesticide use, climate change, and disease have caused alarming declines in bee populations worldwide. Their survival depends on urgent action from all of us. Supporting bees, raising awareness, and promoting sustainable practices are critical steps in addressing this crisis and ensuring their survival — and ours.

The alchemy of beekeeping and corporate values 

During his visit, Mr. Krupeľák shared with us the "alchemy" of beekeeping — how patience, dedication, and a deep respect for nature can transform a small hive into a thriving ecosystem. This process benefits not only the bees but everything around them. We found strong parallels between this philosophy and our company’s approach to sustainability. Just as beekeeping relies on balance and harmony, so do our efforts to promote sustainability and innovation in our projects. 

Supporting bees is just one of the many environmental initiatives we foster. One example is our collaboration with WTR Global, a company specializing in wastewater management. Another inspiring initiative is Adaptie, a program designed to engage communities in environmental stewardship. Through Adaptie, individuals can register to "adopt" a section of pavement or small public gardens. In addition, we plan to support the Košice’s Botanical Garden with a small reconstruction project, further contributing to the preservation and enhancement of green spaces in our community.

Whether it’s supporting bees, purifying water, or empowering local communities, every action we take is a step toward a more sustainable and harmonious world. Because when we nurture nature, it nurtures us in return.
