A new era for wastewater treatment in small communities

Ecology and green technologies have always been high on my list of priorities. That’s also why one of our core company values is:
“ALTRUISM – Protect Mother Earth, do good.”
You may have heard about the unique wastewater treatment system we’ve built in collaboration with WTR. It’s based on 30 years of research by seasoned water treatment expert Juraj Cséfalvay, leading to a patented technology we call the “WTR Superorganism.”

From client-supplier to a true partnership
Our journey with WTR started six years ago. Over time, what began as a standard client-supplier relationship evolved into a full-fledged, long-term partnership, where we work together to position this groundbreaking technology in the global wastewater treatment industry.
Today, more than 200 WTR plants operate worldwide — ranging from small village systems to large plants serving 500,000+ people per facility. These aren’t just numbers; they represent cleaner water, significant energy savings and a reduced carbon footprint — benefiting both nature and communities.
A major milestone: The first containerized WTR plant in Slovakia
Recently, we celebrated a huge milestone — the opening of the first containerized WTR wastewater treatment plant in Slovakia. This facility will serve two villages (Sveržov and Tarnov) with a combined population of fewer than 2,000 residents.

It’s a small plant, but a big leap forward — not only for Slovakia but also for Europe. This project is paving the way for a new approach to decentralized wastewater treatment, specifically for hauled wastewater.
Why is this a breakthrough?
In many rural areas, wastewater isn’t managed through a central sewage system. Instead, homes have underground reservoirs where sewage is collected and later transported to large treatment plants. Cleaning this type of wastewater is challenging due to its specific chemical composition and the need for a small-scale, cost-effective, odorless solution that works consistently.
The WTR containerized technology solves these challenges.

As Ing. Stanislav Prcúch, CEO of VVS a.s., puts it:
“The main advantages of WTR technology include high cleaning efficiency, low energy consumption, minimal excess sludge, stable processes without odors and noise, and an overall cost-effective operation.”
The road to change wasn’t easy
VVS, one of the leading water treatment companies in Slovakia, started exploring decentralized wastewater treatment years ago. However, many of its leaders were skeptical because the necessary technology simply didn’t exist at the time.
Their first attempt? They found a supplier abroad and built decentralized plants — but they failed. These plants were a disaster, shut down within weeks. And the cost? Two to three times higher than WTR’s solution.
As Ing. Stanislav Hreha PhD, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of VVS, a.s., stated:
“I have no information that a similar wastewater treatment plant, operating without a sewage system and with this kind of technology, exists anywhere else in Europe. What’s even more remarkable is that it’s Slovak technology.”
Why this technology is a game changer
If we compare the traditional approach to wastewater treatment in villages with fewer than 4,000 residents, adopting WTR technology means:
💧 10x more affordable than centralized wastewater treatment (which relies on extensive sewage infrastructure)
💧 Cuts the cost of hauled wastewater disposal for households in half
💧 Fully decentralized, cost-effective, and scalable solution
Convincing decision-makers at VVS to give WTR a chance took a massive effort. But after several successful deployments, the door to further expansion is finally open. Local mayors are taking notice, and if this technology is used to its full potential, it could drastically improve the quality of life for people in rural areas.
What’s next?
This project is part of our broader mission to use technology for real, positive impact.
Next, we’re looking to expand throughout Slovakia — growing the list of successful deployments and bringing WTR treatment plants to more locations. Beyond that, we’re focused on scaling globally.
A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this initiative. Together, we’re making a difference.
