Adaptie is a digital platform designed to help municipalities manage public space maintenance by engaging local citizens in everyday upkeep tasks. It supports long-term and one-time activities throughout the year and offers tools for coordination, communication, and transparent task tracking.

Case study

The need

Municipalities often face limited internal resources and growing pressure to maintain public spaces efficiently. Košice originally approached us in 2020 with a need for a quick and smart solution to manage winter sidewalk maintenance by engaging local citizens. As the initial solution proved effective, the need expanded: cities required a more versatile tool to handle maintenance throughout the year, not just in winter, and to improve coordination with residents, reduce operational costs, and boost civic involvement.

Core issue

The challenge was twofold: first, to quickly deliver a functioning winter maintenance tool (Zimná údržba) for Košice that could involve citizens in clearing sidewalks and track their contributions. Second, to transform this focused tool into a broader, more robust platform — Adaptie — that would be usable by any municipality, in any season, for a variety of public space tasks. This required new functionality, a refreshed user experience, better scalability, and a system that supports both long-term and one-time maintenance activities while staying intuitive for everyday users and effective for administrators.

Our solution

We developed Adaptie as a reimagined and expanded version of Zimná údržba. The platform allows citizens to adopt specific public areas and carry out designated maintenance tasks — ranging from recurring care of green spaces to one-time activities like cleaning, painting, or repairing public infrastructure.
