The need

The Slovak Mountaineering Association James, the organization representing sport climbing in Slovakia, was the primary client for Verti. Before Verti, competitions managed by James involved manually entering results into Excel spreadsheets. This method was slow, error-prone, and inefficient, causing long wait times for competitors to see their results and making the overall competition experience frustrating. The challenge was to create a system that could automate and streamline these processes, making the competition management more efficient and user-friendly.

The idea for Verti was conceived by a Hotovian who is also a member of James and experienced firsthand the inefficiencies of the existing system. During a competition in early 2020, the long wait for results highlighted the need for a more efficient solution. Leveraging a student project (Live IT Projects) in collaboration with the Technical University of Košice, the initial concept was developed. Recognizing the potential of this solution, Hotovo stepped in to bring the project to life, providing the necessary expertise and resources.

Our solution

This project began with an idea born out of frustration with existing competition management methods. The first phase involved students from the Technical University of Košice working on the initial concept as part of the Live IT Projects. This phase produced the basic framework of the application. Hotovo then took over the project, refining the concept, adding advanced features, ensuring the application was production-ready and met the specific needs of the client and potential users. Today, Verti is continuously developed and maintained by a dedicated team, with ongoing input from SMA James.

Hotovo was entrusted with the complete development of Verti, including front-end and back-end development, user interface design, and testing. The team successfully transformed an inefficient manual system into a streamlined digital solution that significantly reduced the time and effort required to manage competitions.

  1. Efficiency: Verti reduced the time required to log and evaluate competition results. The automated system eliminates delays caused by manual data entry.
  2. Accuracy: The application significantly decreased the potential for human error in recording and evaluating results, ensuring fair and precise outcomes for all competitors.
  3. User satisfaction: The application received positive feedback from users, particularly for its ease of use and intuitive design. Organizers appreciated the streamlined setup process, while competitors valued the quick access to accurate results.
  4. Scalability: Verti was designed not just for SMA James but for any organization hosting climbing competitions. It can be customized to meet the specific needs of different organizations and competition formats.
  5. Real-time updates: Verti enabled real-time updates and live display of results, improving the viewer experience and keeping competitors informed of their standings throughout the event.
  6. Comprehensive data management: Verti’s ability to handle large volumes of data seamlessly made it easier for organizers to manage multiple competitions simultaneously, ensuring smooth operations even for large-scale events.
  7. Flexibility and customization: Verti offered a high degree of customization, allowing organizers to define specific parameters for different climbing disciplines and competition formats. This flexibility made it suitable for various types of competitions.
  8. Increased engagement: By offering features like live results and real-time updates, Verti increased engagement from competitors and spectators, creating a more dynamic and interactive competition environment.

Timekeeping integration: Adding a timekeeping feature to support the various timing requirements of different climbing disciplines. This will enhance the accuracy of time measurements and provide real-time updates for spectators.

Improved registration system: Enhancing the registration system to allow for both member and non-member entries, with options for one-time or long-term subscriptions based on the needs of different organizations.

User-friendly enhancements: Continuously improving the user interface to ensure it remains intuitive and easy to use, even as more features are added. This will involve regular user testing and feedback to identify and address any usability issues.

Market expansion strategies: Implementing strategies to market Verti to a broader audience, including climbing organizations and competitions in foreign countries. This will involve targeted marketing campaigns and partnerships with relevant organizations.

Community building: Creating a community around Verti, where users can share their experiences, provide feedback, and suggest new features. This community-driven approach will help ensure the application evolves in line with user needs.

Ongoing support and maintenance: Ensuring that Verti receives continuous support and maintenance to address any issues promptly and keep the application running smoothly. This includes regular updates and security enhancements.
